WHAT ARE COOKIES?

Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They help websites remember information about your visit.

This policy also covers similar technologies, in particular local storage. Local storage sits in your browser like a cookie does, but it is not sent to a server with every request. We list the local storage entries we write further down this page.

HOW WE USE COOKIES

We use cookies and similar technologies to:

salesrook.com is a public marketing website. There is no account area or sign-in on this host, so nothing here keeps you signed in.

These cookies and scripts load when you arrive on the site. We do not run an on-site control that switches them off before they load. The browser settings and opt-out tools in the Managing Cookies section below are the way to stop them.

TYPES OF COOKIES WE USE

Analytics

Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-49Q9BMGQMZ), delivered through Cloudflare Zaraz, our server-side tag manager. Zaraz loads the Google tag on our behalf and sets the first-party cookies named in the next section. (Google Privacy Policy)

What a session recording captures

A recording captures the pages you view and how you interact with them, including the text that is visible on the page. Tokens containing a digit or an @ sign are masked automatically. Any information shown as visible text on a recorded page is therefore captured in the recording.

Text you type into a form field is different. It is masked in your browser before anything is transmitted, so the values you enter are not visible to us in a recording. Our forms collect a name, phone number, email address, company name and a consent tick, and none of them carries a free-text enquiry box.

Advertising

The same Google tag also sends requests to stats.g.doubleclick.net and google.com/ads/ga-audiences. Your visit can be used to build and sync Google Ads audiences, to retarget you with our advertising, to personalise the ads you are shown, and to measure conversions and campaign performance. That is advertising processing as well as analytics, and we disclose it as both. (How Google uses data from sites that use its services)

Microsoft Clarity is also not purely an analytics tool. Alongside its analytics cookie it sets Microsoft Advertising identifiers, and it carries a facility for synchronising that identifier with Microsoft. We therefore treat Clarity as advertising as well as analytics, in the same way as the Google calls above.

Essential Cookies

salesrook.com is a public marketing website with no account area or login, so essential cookies of the sign-in, session, CSRF and load-balancing kind belong to SalesRook applications on other domains. Where you use such an application, it sets the cookies it needs in order to work, and those are covered by the terms for that application.

Third-Party Embeds

Some content is hosted by third parties, for example YouTube videos. These services may set their own cookies when you interact with embedded content.

THE COOKIES THIS SITE SETS

Cloudflare Zaraz sets the following first-party cookies on salesrook.com:

cfz_google-analytics_v4 - holds the Google Analytics client identifier. Max-Age 31536000 (one year). Flagged HttpOnly, Secure and SameSite=Lax.
cfzs_google-analytics_v4 - holds session-scoped Google Analytics values. A session cookie: it is discarded when you close your browser.

Microsoft Clarity sets its own cookies from clarity.ms when it loads, with a declared lifetime of up to 365 days:

_clck - the Clarity analytics identifier for your browser.
_uetvid and _uetmsclkid - Microsoft Advertising identifiers, used to recognise a visitor and to attribute a click from Microsoft advertising.

Microsoft documents these in its privacy statement. YouTube sets cookies only if you play an embedded video.

LOCAL STORAGE WE USE

Our own code writes a small number of entries to your browser's local storage. They stay on your device, are not sent to a server automatically, and persist until you clear your browsing data.

sr_attribution_first and sr_attribution_last - how you first arrived at the site and how you most recently arrived (referring site and any campaign parameters in the link), so we can attribute an enquiry to the right source.
or_ctx - campaign context taken from a tracked link, kept so it survives moving between pages.
sr_traffic_type - whether a visit looks like ordinary traffic or one of our own internal tests.
lead_backup_queue - a temporary copy of a form you submitted, held only until it has been delivered to us.
announce-kerfuffle-2026-dismissed - remembers that you closed the announcement bar at the top of the site.
sr-cookie-notice-dismissed - remembers that you closed this cookie notice.

Clearing your browsing data removes all of these.

Most browsers let you control cookies through settings. You can block all cookies, delete cookies, or make exceptions for specific websites. The same settings clear local storage.

Impact of Blocking Cookies

Analytics and advertising cookies: blocking or deleting these cookies may reduce our ability to recognise your browser, attribute your visit, measure campaigns and build Google Ads audiences. It may not stop all analytics, advertising or session-recording requests.

Local storage: we lose the record of how you found us, and anything you dismissed, such as the announcement bar, comes back.
